“Police on Trial” draws on unique on-the-ground reporting and filming, from the earliest days after George Floyd’s death, to the trial and murder conviction of former police officer Derek Chauvin, to ongoing struggles for police accountability and reform in Minneapolis.

Two years in the making, the documentary offers a one-of-a-kind exploration of a police killing that echoed around the world, by Star Tribune reporters and photojournalists who covered it day to day and were awarded the Pulitzer Prize for their work.

“Police on Trial” is part of FRONTLINE’s Local Journalism Initiative, an innovative effort to support and strengthen investigative reporting in communities around the country funded by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. It was produced in association with the Center for Asian American Media and is supported by The WNET Group’s Exploring Hate initiative.

In the middle of the most violent regional capital in Brazil, a brutal gang war is being fought over control of the drug supply routes of the Northwestern Amazon region. Poverty and coercion force many young men into a life of crime where the only ways to escape are incarceration or death.

But amidst the carnage, there is a glimmer of hope - the “91” is a group of former gang lords turned pastors, who offer salvation to gang members who want to leave the criminal life. Their standing in the gang community, forged out of years of service and hard-fought respect, mean that only they can vouch for criminals looking to trade crime for the path of God.

By recording videos of these gangsters in repentance - that follow a tight script and are then shared with the higher ranks of the gangs for approval - they are saving hundreds of lives that Brazilian institutions overlook. This is the story of the “91”.

A great research documentary on the extreme depths of the Mariana Trench and the mind blowing unseen sea creatures. Very well narrated documentary by David Attenborough. The Mariana Trench or Marianas Trench is located in the western Pacific Ocean about 200 kilometers east of the Mariana Islands; it is the deepest oceanic trench on earth. The maximum known depth of Marian Trench is 10,984 meters however, some unrepeated measurements place the deepest portion at 11,034 meters.

This NHK documentary is all about the facts and under water life in the deepest sea floor at about 8KM to 10KM below the water level. A hair-raising film on the descent into the Mariana Trench where water exerts a pressure of 1,086 bars (15,750 psi) and the temperature is between 1 to 4 °C (34 to 39 °F).

After the deadly airline crash of Continental 3407 in Buffalo, New York, FRONTLINE investigated the accident and discovered a dramatically changed airline industry, where regional carriers accounted for half of the nation's daily departures and insiders worried about the aviation system being stretched beyond its capacity to deliver service that is both cheap and safe. Problems with Drugs and Crime in Kensington Ave, Philadelphia

In Philadelphia as a whole, violent crime and drug abuse are major issues. The city has a higher rate of violent crime than the national average and other similarly sized metropolitan areas. The drug overdose rate in Philadelphia is also concerning. Between 2013 and 2015, the number of drug overdose deaths in the city increased by 50%, with more than twice as many deaths from overdoses as homicides. 2 Kensington's high crime rate and drug abuse contribute significantly to Philadelphia's problems.

Because of the high number of drugs in the neighborhood, Kensington has the third-highest drug crime rate by neighborhood in Philadelphia, at 3.57. The opioid epidemic has played a significant role in this problem, as it has in much of the rest of the country. Opioid abuse has skyrocketed in the United States over the last two decades, and Philadelphia is no exception. In addition to having a high rate of drug overdose deaths, 80% of Philadelphia's overdose deaths involved opioids, and Kensington is a significant contributor to this figure. This Philadelphia neighborhood is said to have the largest open-air heroin market on the East Coast, with many neighbors migrating to the area for heroin and other opioids. With such a high concentration of drugs in Kensington, many state and local officials have focused on the neighborhood in an attempt to address Philadelphia's problem.

“Tepito” in Mexico City – arguably the most dangerous black market in the world. At first glance, the no-go zone looks like any other market – yet the main thing you’ll find lurking down the alleyways behind it is death. It’s ruled by the “La Union” gang. The Tepito cartel deals in drugs, weapons and assassinations – anything that you can use money to buy.
The gang plays cat and mouse with the special units. And anyone caught in the crossfire is risking their life. Residents also call the area “Barrio Bravo” – the wild neighborhood.
Estimates suggest that around eight kilos of cocaine and half a ton of marijuana are sold in the alleyways of the no-go zone of Tepito every weekend. It is a place where people pay up to fourteen thousand euros to hitmen for a single yet fatal bullet. A silent knife attack. Or a blast from a shotgun.
The normal police force is barely able to keep the situation under control. According to statistics, Mexico City alone is short of over ten thousand officers. So, in their fight to stop the gangs, the authorities rely primarily on a special unit. Consisting of four hundred men in total, the troop is ready for action around the clock. And the gang members are prepared to kill anybody who might ruin their business.
Tepito – a place that doesn’t play by society’s rules. Where the powerful “La Union” gang rules. And people die on a daily basis. It’s a daunting, deadly no-go zone!

St Joseph's Hospital was erected on Mount Street, Preston in 1877 by Mrs Maria Holland for the benefit of the sick poor. It was opened in 1879 and run by the Sisters of Charity of our Lady Mother of Mercy, who also ran St Joseph's Orphanage in Theatre street. In 1884, it opened up two rooms as accommodation for private patients, and during the First World War it provided care for wounded soldiers (often Belgians). The Hospital was later recognised as a training centre for nurses, and accepted its first trainees in 1958. The Hospital closed in the late 1980s, and is now the Mount Street Nursing Home. The Sisters of Charity are still based in Mount Street at Provincial House.
