AI and mouse brains are showing surprising similarities. Researchers compared AI models to the mouse visual cortex and found overlaps in how they connect and process visual info.
In some tests, the pattern inside AI layers matched the mouse brain's visual path, with representational similarity above 80% in some areas.
We looked at how features build from edges to shapes, mirroring the mouse's own processing.
CNNs and transformer models, when tuned for the task, arrived at similar intermediate representations to actual brain tissue.
Mice have about 71 million neurons; data came from the Allen Brain Observatory and other large datasets.
